Savings calculations highlight the advantages of joint procurement

In May 2025, we published comprehensive calculations of the savings generated by Hansel’s use of joint procurement for its customers for the first time. According to our calculations, the price savings in 2024 amounted to approximately EUR 284.17 million and process savings to approximately EUR 38.74 million, or a total of EUR 322.91 million.

The calculations were made in 2024 for the total value of EUR 1.718 billion of procurement carried out through Hansel’s joint procurements. The average total savings percentage was therefore approximately 15.8 (savings percentage = savings in euros/value of procurement before savings). This savings percentage is very much in line with what has previously been reported in studies and surveys (range 5–20 per cent savings). The corresponding percentage in the calculations of the Danish central purchasing body SKI is slightly over 14, so the calculations also seem credible in relation to this. A more detailed description of the methods used can be found in this blog post (in Finnish).

More accurate calculations to come

In 2025, we reviewed joint procurement savings in numerous customer meetings with individual customers as well as at events for the wider public, such as Kuntamarkkinat, Terveys ja talous -päivät health and finances event for wellbeing services counties and the Hansel Procurement Tour of 16 locations. These meetings led to a lot of discussion about joint procurement savings and related calculations. In the current economic situation, the savings achieved through joint procurement seem to be of great interest to Hansel’s customers!

“The meetings led to a lot of discussion about joint procurement savings.”

From early 2026, Hansel’s analysts will be working on new, partly updated savings calculations for joint procurement used in 2025. The aim is naturally to improve the calculations by increasing reliability and customising savings calculations per procurement unit, among other things. The basic idea behind this fine-tuning is that the amount of benefit from the use of joint procurement depends on the baseline situation of Hansel’s customer before the adoption of joint procurement.
